The 2014th edition of Pentawards - Worldwide Design Packaging Competition, that took place this last Thursday in Tokyo, gave a Gold Award to the project Crochet, developed by Rita Rivotti. This portuguese design is victorious in the same category achieved last year by Absolut vodka. Crochet was born out of a challenge launched by the two winemakers, Susana Esteban and Sandra Tavares, that invited Rita Rivotti to idealize and project the image and packaging of their wine. Rita Rivotti explains that the inspiration for “Crochet came from a very ancient feminine ritual, focused on a specific ability, that used to be mandatory for every girl at marrying age, and as the label shows: an old embroidery, knot by knot.”

The Lusos Awards, Prémios Lusófonos da Criatividade, delivered the awards for their 3rd quarterly edition. The ceremony took place in the MusicBox space, in Lisbon. These awards intend to distinguish creative projects, written and thought in portuguese. The Guadalupe range of wines, produced at Quinta do Quetzal has renewed its image. The rebranding, in charge of Rita Rivotti’s studio, has transformed this Alentejo regional wine’s image into a more sophisticated, young and urban one. “To empower the image of quality of Quinta do Quetzal’s wines and broad their target to younger audiences” are the main goals of this makeover, the company explains.

Pedro Roque is the new Creative Director of Rita Rivotti Wine Branding & Design studio. He was, until now, the creative supervisor of Santa Fé Associates. In his career Pedro worked in Paulo Garcez Palha studio and Leo Burnett/Arc. Rita Rivotti commented with M&P that Pedro Roque is “an excellent designer that won several awards”.

The work developed by DOC Portugal is being continued by Rita Rivotti Wine Branding & Design. With the closing in February of the design studio DOC Portugal, founded by two partners (one of them was Rita Rivotti), most of the team passed on to Rita Rivotti Wine Branding & Design. Rita Rivotti told M&P that her background studies were in Agronomics, followed by a Marketing degree later on. It was after this last degree that, together with a designer friend, she created DOC.
