Naming / Concept / Packaging
From the heights of Cidadelhe, in the gardens of the Quinta do Côtto manor, we can see the Douro River below, and prepare to receive the complete information and inspiration to create the new image for this iconic wine brand. After a long walk through the vineyards, we have lunch in the beautiful dining room with the Champalimaud family and winemaker Lourenço Charters. We are told about this family’s history, the marriages and family bonds, as well as the estate’s different phases, from the time when it produced only Port wine until the production of the region’s first table wines, Quinta do Cotto Grande Escolha.

Guided by a philosophy to “preserve the graphic legacy”, we began our work. We redesigned the image for the three classic wines to restore their authenticity and nobility. We created a fourth label for a wine produced from a vineyard with unique characteristics, which came to the family in 1865 as part of the dowry Rosa Carolina Pinto Barreiros brought to marry the Cidadelhe heir, António Montez Champalimaud. We named it “Vinha do dote”, a tribute to this woman, great-great-grandmother of the current generation and known as avó Rosa (grandma Rosa), illustrating this narrative in a subtle and beautiful style.
We worked on each wine individually, giving it its own identity, but with a DNA firmly rooted in the Quinta do Côtto brand. Thus, we created a family of products that, individually and collectively, tell the exclusive story of this Portuguese icon.
A contemporary image inspired by the past.
